Step-by-Step Guide

How SplitCircle Works

SplitCircle takes the stress out of shared group spending. Learn how our platform tracks group expenses, calculates who owes what, simplifies debt webs, and enables frictionless settlements.

01
Setup

Create a Group

Start by creating a dedicated group (called a Circle) for your specific purpose — such as your apartment flatmates, a vacation trekking crew, an office lunch club, or a group dinner. Choose your primary default currency (NPR, USD, INR, EUR) and invite friends using invite links or member codes.

02
Logging

Add an Expense

Whenever a group purchase occurs — like a restaurant bill, grocery haul, hotel deposit, or monthly utility bill — log the details in seconds. You can specify category tags, dates, notes, and attach photo receipts to ensure full transparency for every member.

03
Payer Allocation

Choose Who Pays

Did one person pay the entire bill, or did multiple friends chip in at the counter? SplitCircle accommodates both single-payer transactions and multi-payer contributions, accurately crediting each member’s financial outlay to their group balance.

04
Calculation Rules

Split the Cost

Tailor how the expense is divided among the group. Choose from four flexible split models:

Equal Split

Divide the total evenly across all or selected participants.

Itemized Receipt

Assign individual food items with proportional tax & tip calculation.

Exact Amounts

Assign exact rupee or dollar sums per member.

Percentage Split

Distribute shares by custom percentages (e.g. 60/40).

05
Debt Simplification

Track Balances

Instead of forcing every member to pay back each person who paid for a bill, SplitCircle computes everyone's net balance. Our Greedy Minimum Cash Flow algorithm collapses complicated webs of debt into the minimum possible direct transactions:

Without Simplification: 12 cross-payments

Every person sends small transfers back and forth.

→

With SplitCircle: 3 direct payments

Net balances resolved in at most N - 1 total steps.

06
Final Step

Settle Up

When it is time to square debts, open the settlement screen. Payees can display their direct eSewa, Khalti, or Fonepay QR code with the exact rupee amount pre-filled. Payers scan, confirm payment in their wallet app, and mark the settlement complete. Cash and bank transfers are also fully supported.
